Seattle-based Old Coast melds a spirited mix of whisky-drinking desert songs with driving rhythms and blue collar harmonies to create a unique brand of Pacific Northwest Americana.

Old Coast is a Seattle band with roots in the American Southwest, and you can hear both places in their music — a version of Americana that's as much wide-open desert as it is Pacific Northwest. The group grew out of the solo work of Arizona-born songwriter and guitarist Asher Deaver, whose album Manifest opened the door to a fuller-hearted band sound.

Old Coast’s debut album, Middleman, was released in 2018. Not long after its release, Asher was diagnosed with a recurring tumor in the temporal lobe of his brain, and the band stepped back while he went through radiation and chemotherapy. Old Coast returned to the stage the following year, bringing new songs and new band members into their orbit.

The time since has pulled the band somewhere new — a bolder, rock-leaning take on their sound. That momentum carries into Alcatraz, recorded with Nathan Yaccino at the Bait Shop in Ballard, Seattle. The album – which features Seattle’s Byland on vocals – is new territory for the band, and the clearest sign yet of where they're headed. Alcatraz will be released on October 17, 2026.
